PostHeaderIcon Welcome

The Missouri Winemaking Society is a nonprofit organization of amateur winemakers, founded in 1977. The focus of the group is to promote winemaking as a hobby while also developing an appreciation for wine. Members tend to be passionate about wine and winemaking and are always excited to help or answer questions about crafting fine wines.

Please feel free to take a look around our website, and whether you are a novice or an expert, you are always welcome at our meetings! Enjoy!

MWS monthly meetings are held at the Assumption Greek Church (near I-270 & Manchester Rd.).  More information can be found on the About Us page.

The 32nd annual Wine Fair, held on February 26, was another successful event. There were 111 wines and 7 labels entered across 32 individual classes. Judging of the wines was based in the modified UC Davis 20 scoring system. Each wine was evaluated independently and assigned an average score by the judges assigned to a particular flight. Multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded in those classes based on the average score. This year we introduced cash prizes in the form of gift certificates from wine supply companies around the Midwest region. The gift certificates and special recognition awards were presented to Best of Show, Most First Place Scores and Highest scores in each Section.

The Best of Show is determined by a second judging of the highest scoring Gold medal wines by a select group of judges. The judges re-evaluated these wines again and this year unanimously selected Bob Peters’ 2011 Frontenac Gris as the 2012 Best of Show. The First Place in the label competition went to Dustin Mahon for his “Super Tuscan” label. Congratulation to both Bob and Dustin!

Thanks to the judges who did an excellent job and our sponsors who generously donated the gift certificates. We also wish to thank De Smet Jesuit High School for allowing us to use the facility for the Wine Fair.

Check out the Wine Fair tab and click on Wine Fair 2012 Results for a complete listing of the entries and medal winners as well as links to our Sponsors and Wineries/retailers who provided judges. You will also see pictures the label entries and activities during the competition. A special thanks to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
